Common PPE certification test items

When conducting CE certification of personal protective equipment (PPE), various types of protective equipment must pass a series of rigorous tests to ensure that they can provide adequate protection in various working environments. The following are commo PPE certification test items:

Mechanical performance test
1) Cut resistance: to test the cut resistance of gloves or protective clothing when facing sharp objects, usually using EN 388 standard.
2) Abrasion resistance: to evaluate the wear resistance of material and  test wear resistance of surface by repeated friction, suitable for gloves, clothing, etc.
3) Tear resistance: to test the tearing resistance when subjected to force, ensuring that it is not easy to break when subjected to force suddenly.
4) Puncture resistance: to evaluate puncture resistance of material by sharp objects, especially suitable for gloves, soles, etc.

Chemical protection test
1) Chemical penetration: to test material' s resistance to penetration of specific chemicals, usually based on the EN 16523 standard, suitable for protective clothing and gloves.
2) Chemical degradation: to evaluate the changes in structure and performance of protective materials after contact with chemicals, so ensure that their protective function is not weakened.
3) Liquid penetration resistance: to test material' s anti-penetration performance against liquid chemicals, suitable for liquid chemical protective clothing and gloves.

Respiratory protection test
1) Filtration efficiency: to test the filtration efficiency of masks or gas masks on particulate matter in the air, applicable to respiratory protection equipment such as N95, FFP2, FFP3, according to EN 149 standard.
2) Air tightness: to evaluate the air tightness of respiratory protective equipment when wearing, so that ensure there is no air leakage during wearing, usually in accordance with EN 136 and EN 140 standards.
3) Inhalation and exhalation resistance: to test the resistance of respiratory protective equipment during inhalation & exhalation to ensure the user' s breathing comfort and safety.

Eye protection test
1) Impact resistance: to evaluate the impact resistance of goggles and masks when facing high-speed flying objects to ensure that the eyes are not damaged, according to EN 166 standard.
2) Optical performance: test the optical quality of goggles and masks, including light transmittance, field of view clarity and distortion-free, to ensure that users have a good field of view.
3) UV resistance: evaluate the ability of goggles to block ultraviolet rays to ensure eye protection when used in strong light or ultraviolet environments.
4) Anti-scratch and anti-fog: test the anti-scratch and anti-fog performance of goggles to ensure clear vision during use.

Note: these test items ensure that personal protective equipment provides adequate protection in various working environments, helping manufacturers pass CE certification and enter the EU market.
